What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the art of being present and aware in the moment. It is a mental state where one has an attitude of openness, curiosity and acceptance towards thoughts, feelings, sensations or anything that makes up our experience.

Mindfulness is not about stopping thoughts from coming into your head. It’s not about clearing your mind or trying to think positively all the time. Rather, it’s about acknowledging and accepting whatever you are going through in the moment, without judgement.

Finally, mindfulness can help us to be more productive in our day-to-day lives by reducing distraction from things like social media or other digital devices.

Mindfulness for Men

Our introduction to Mindfulness 6 week course is led by our owner Barry Joyce geared towards men. Barry is an experienced mindfulness, meditation and breathwork practitioner, all of which combined help shape a class that take into the account the nuanced approach that is required for beginning a mindful journey as a man. This course includes 1 Floatation Experience.

Linking in WIth Niamh Coyle of Croia Yoga, we are structuring intimate 6 week courses with a small student/teacher ratio in our gorgeous studio. Classes currently running Tuesday at 6.30am and 10 am, Thursday at 8 pm.

Our 6 week Introduction to Mindfulness course will cover all the basics you need to start and create your own mindfulness practice.

Breathe Well Functional Breathing Programme

A breathing programme cultivated using the skills of Oxygen Advantage . This can be used to promote better breathing habits and can improve your life from day 1.

Corporate Programme

A weekly programme or one off full day/ half day/ lunch hour chat to get the basics across. My own corporate experience tied in with mindfulness education.

1-2-1 Mindfulness Course

A personal mindfulness course for just you. Allowing for a more in depth view of mindful practices on a 1-2-1 basis and are more personal than group classes.

Pay As You Go Classes

Wake Up Well

These classes combine elements of breathwork, meditation and mindful movement, designed to target the start, middle and end of your week. If you are interested in picking up tricks to handle stress, boost energy or focus on your day, these classes are for you. Classes are pre book and pay as you go.

Mindful Mondays

Mondays 6.30am

This class combines some breathwork practice and meditation, designed to help start your week on the best possible footing. Pick up some tricks on how to manage your stress through simple breathing exercises.


Midweek Breathwork

Wednesday 6.30am

45 minutes based solely on breathwork, reaching hump day its time to re-energise for the rest of the week. You will leave this class feeling pretty invinceable!


Friday Slowdown

Friday 6.30am

This class brings mindful movement to the party, focusing on slower and more deliberate functional breathing along with guided meditation to focus you for the day. Helps get you focused to get Fridays work done early and free you up for the weekend.

In our mindfulness programme we do cover mindfulness, breathwork and meditation, but its not too woo woo. Our courses are backed up by year of scientific research, so not only could you feel better after taking part in this course, you will understand the reasons why. And understanding why is the key in maintaining a good practice going forward.

Mindfulness has been around for thousands of years. When Jon Kabat-Zinn decided to create a programme in the University of Massachusetts in 1979 he removed any reference to religions as they stood and began to study to benefits of the actions. Mindfulness does not conflict with any beliefs or traditions, whether religious, cultural or scientific.

It is simply a practical way to notice thoughts, physical sensations, sights, sounds, smells- anything we might not normally notice. The actual skills might be quiet simple, but because it is so different to how our minds normally behave, it takes a lot of practice.

Mindfulness is an inclusive practice. What you put in to it you will get out of it. Once you dedicate yourself to the course you will achieve benefits from it.
People often say that they will not be able to meditate as there mind is way too busy to do it. The art of mindfulness and mindful meditation isn’t about clearing the mind of all thoughts, after all we have over 60,000 of them a day. It’s about acknowledging when we have gotten lost in thought and guiding ourselves back to whatever task we have been distracted from. By practicing mindfulness this awareness comes earlier and earlier in along the wandering stream, ensuring less time is lost to worrying about the future, ruminating about what has passed and more time is spent living in the present.
Developing a mindful practice is often seen as a luxury not everyone can afford. However studies have shown that developing and maintaining a mindful practice increases productivity and reduces time lost in thought among others. Combined these alone cover the time you end up spending dedicated solely to a mindfulness practice.
